Performer Biographies

Ana de la Vega is currently Principal Flute of the EPK Europa Philharmonie, Baden-Wurttemberg in Germany, as well as Associate Principal Flute with the Philharmonie der Nationen, Hamburg.
Ana spent her childhood years living between Argentina and Australia.
After graduating in music with an HD from the University of Sydney, Ana left Australia for France. She gained entry into the Conservatoire National de Region de Paris where she studied under Catherine Cantin for the Premier Prix de le Conservatoire de Paris during which time she also studied privately under Monsieur Raymond Guiot and Philippe Pierlot.
Whilst in Paris Ana performed as Principal flute with the L'Orchestre de la Conservatoire de Paris at the Opera Bastille, as well as with the L'Orchestre de Hector Berlioz de Paris. She was twice finalist in the Concours de Jeune Flutisits de la France.
Ana has attended masterclasses with and received tutoring from David Nicholson, Ransom Wilson, Felix Renngli, Alex Murray, Ian Clark, Mike Mower, Trevor Wye, Gary Schocker, Michael Cox and Claire Southworth.
At age 25 Ana was appointed Principal Flute and Soloist with the Orchestra do Norte in Oporto, Portugal, with whom she subsequently performed throughout Spain and Portugal the W.A Mozart Concertos for Flute and Orchestra. Ana however left Portugal in early 2009 to take up her positions in Germany.
Ana has a relatively active solo and chamber music calendar. She has, in her short career, performed as recitalist or as a chamber musician in London and Paris, Belgium, Australia, Germany, Turkey, Greece, Malta, Portugal and Spain. More recently Ana has been performing with section leaders of the Bucharest Radio Symphony as a chamber ensemble paying particular attention to Haydn and the string quartets of Arthur Honneger.
In January 2010 Ana recorded Haydn double Concertos for (Flute and Oboe) with French Oboist Emmanuel Rey, and WA Mozart Andante for Flute and Orchestra K.315 with a chamber ensemble of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in Sydney.
On the 2nd of December 2010 Ana will make her debut London performance in Cadogun Hall accompanied by the English Chamber Orchestra. Ana's orchestral work includes Philharmonie der Nationen, Hamburg, Germany, EPK Europa Philharmonia, Baden-Wurttemburg, Germany, L'Orcestra de la Conservatoire Paris, France, L'Orchestra Hector Berlioz de Paris, Orquestra do Norte, Portugal. Orchestra Charlemagne for Europe, Brussels, Belgium.

At 21 years of age, Michael Last is in his fourth year of a Bachelor of Music (Performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where he studies flute with James Kortum.   Michael graduated from St. Patrick’s College, Sutherland, in2006 where he was College Captain and Dux.  For his academic achievements and leadership, Michael was awarded a University of Sydney Merit Scholarship.   In 2009 he was a semi-finalist in the 2MBS-FM Young Performers Award and was also Musical Director of the Regals Musical Society production of Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Sweeney Todd.’  Michael has represented the Conservatorium on two international tours; to Europe in 2009 and more recently to Germany, performing with the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra as part of the Bronnbach Festival.  Michael has been a member of the Sydney Symphony’s training orchestra, ‘Sinfonia’ since 2009.   Through this education program he has worked with renowned conductors, Richard Gill, Vladmir Ashkenazy and Yannick Nézet-Séguin and has been mentored by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Flute, Janet Webb, Principal Piccolo, Rosamund Plummer, and 2nd Flute, Carolyn Harris.  Michael is also a member of the Sydney Youth Orchestra’s Flagship Orchestra and this year is the recipient of the Grace Family Scholarship.  He was also a finalist in the SYO concerto competition.  Michael has performed as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles throughout Sydney and the South Coast.  He is a founding member of the wind quintet, ‘Sydney Wind Collective,’ and in August will take up residency with this ensemble in Armidale as part of the Australian Youth Orchestra’s Regional Residency program.

Latham Horn is currently in his third year of a Bachelor of Music in Advanced Performance at the Queensland Conservatorium.  Pursuing a carrer as an orchestral Flutist, Latham plays with the Queensland Youth Symphony and Chamber Orchestra, the Conservatorium Symphony, Chamber and Opera Orchestras and has played with the Brisbane Symphony, Brisbane Philharmonic, International Mueller Chamber Orchestra, Queensland Wind Orchestra and plays regularly in theatre orchestras.

In the past, Latham has been the winner of the Australian Flute Festival Young Artists Competition, 4MBS Chamber Music Prize, Encounters III Performance Scholarship, Adjudicator's Choice Trophy at the Queensland Prestige Music Festival, Victorian Piano Music School Scholarship AGMS and was on scholarship for the Queensland Young Conservatorium.

Latham's teachers include Gerhard Mallon, Patrick Nolan, Alexis Kenny and Ron Edwards and has played in lessons/masterclasses with Michael Cox (UK), Leone Buyse (US), Wissam Boustany (UK) and Sally Walker.  Playing with award winning Flute Quartet 'Flutter', Latham appears regularly in recital, as a chamber musician and as soloist with orchestra.

In his spare time Latham enjoys NOT eating dead animals, learning German, cooking and going to the Opera.

In 2009, Hoa Tran graduated with a Bachelor of Music from the Queensland Conservatorium. During her past four years of tertiary study, she has played with Opera Queensland, Queensland Youth Orchestras, Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra, and various orchestras and ensembles within the Queensland Conservatorium. In her final year at the Queensland Conservatorium, Hoa undertook an internship with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, mentored by principal flute Alexis Kenny. She was also one of four flute players selected for the annual Australian International Symphony Orchestra Institute, held by the University of Tasmania Conservatorium of Music. Hoa has played in master classes led by internationally renowned flautists such as Leone Buyse (USA) and Wissam Boustany (UK).

She currently performs with the Tasmania Discovery Orchestra and the Derwent Ensemble, a wind quintet combining students from the Conservatorium of Music in Hobart and a member of the Tasmania Symphony Orchestra. She has performed live with this ensemble on 3MBS Classic FM in Melbourne.

Hoa holds an Orchestral Wind Scholarship offered by the University of Tasmania Conservatorium of Music and studies with Andrew Macleod (VIC) and Lloyd Hudson (TAS).

Michal Rosiak received his graduate degree in music performance from Academy of Music in Katowice and he has extensive experience in teaching, performance & composition.  A recent inductee into the Australian music scene, he has spent most of his career to date in Europe where he has won many accolades for his performance, compositions & teaching, as well as being principal Flautist with Opole Philharmonic Orchestra in Poland, member of ESPRIT Flute Trio and a flute teacher in Chopin State School of Music in Opole.
He has attended masterclasses with Peter Lloyd, Rien de Reede, Marina Piccinini, Andras Adorjan, Kaspar Zehnder, Bonita Boyd, Ruth Morley and Geoffrey Collins.
Michal has been a prizewinner of various competitions including the International Festival for Young Musicians in Neerpelt / Belgium ( 1st Prize summa cum laude ), the Polish Contest for Chamber Music in Wroclaw / Poland, the 2nd & 3rd National Contest for Young Composers in Tarnow / Poland, the scholarship of the Polish Ministry of Culture and the
All Flutes Plus London scholarship.
Michal has also performed as a soloist with the Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra, Capella Cracoviensis, Heidelberger Kammerorchester and Junge Philharmonie Köln. 

He has been a committee member of the South Australian Flute Society, an examiner of the Australian Music Examination Board for SA/NT and a flute teacher in several schools in Adelaide.

He also has been a flute & ensemble tutor for the South Australian State Music Camp and the Elder Conservatorium of Music in Adelaide and also an artistic director of Barossa Flute Festival in 2008. He performed at the Sydney Flute Festival in 2007 as well as recently at the Australian Flute Festival in Adelaide. His composition “Scherzo” has been a compulsory piece for the ensemble competition at the Australian Flute Festival in Adelaide. 

He is currently a flautist with the Australian Army Band, Adelaide Art Orchestra and KSHEMA Flutes.

His music has been performed in Poland, Germany, Great Britain, Switzerland, Belgium, Russia, United States and Australia and has also been broadcast by ABC Classic.
